Over a dozen years ago, my husband spent many months of the year travelling for work and one of his favourite places was New Delhi. There was something about the colours and the sights that meshed with him. I stayed at home and never travelled with him as I wrangled two small children and the idea of long trips overseas with two boys scared me witless.
This didn’t stop Mr P from exploring in every spare minute the markets, often resulting in long nights spent in the men’s bathrooms. Oh he loved the food, he will tell you but the food didn’t always love him back.
Since this bangle made its first trip from India, it has been to sub-Antarctic Islands to see penguins and seals; to Italy to drive Tuscany; to the United Kingdom numerous times to visit much loved family; and of course to many cities in Australia. It also gets spun around my wrist when I’m nervous at a doctors appointment, or sitting a piano exam as a far too old beginner, or holding my mum’s hand when she’s not feeling great.
So the bangle never comes off and I wonder now if someone will remove it from me when my own time is done. I hope so, it needs to travel this bangle. It needs to be kept close to someone who loves it and for it to visit new places.
It has a lot still to do in its life.
